Description:
The support for zlib compression in wireshark is currently explicitly
disabled at compiletime. (PKGBUILD) I suggest to enable this feature
as this greatly improves load time for large trace files and also
makes working with compressed trace files much easier.

Additional info:
* affected packages: wireshark-cli 1.4.4-1, wireshark-gtk 1.4.4-1

Ah, OK. Should I request closure of this request, or wait until the bug is solved in wireshark?

can you recompile wireshark with zlib support and see if is working?

I have recompiled x86_64 version with --with-zlib=yes key and it works perfectly fine for me.

Sorry for late reply. I also compiled it for x86_64 and it did not work. Wireshark hangs at some point or packets are missing. I get similar errors on console as reported in upstream.

+1 here: I'm trying to re-enable the option every time a new Wireshark is out but no luck so far.

I have found that packets missing only on tap interface (VDE in my case) and works ok on wlan.

Still lots of these when compiling 1.4.7 with --with-zlib=yes
Warn Error "File contains a record that's not valid" while reading: "/tmp/wiresharkXXXXtaoMLS"

So no zlib support yet in Arch.

Zlib support is back in our Wireshark 1.6.0 package. This has been tested and looks fixed. Please re-open this report if the bug is back.
