Description:

after update of filesystem, ncurses and mlocate day 13/04/2011, versions:

filesystem 2011.04-1
mlocate 0.24-1
lib32-ncurses 5.7-6
ncurses 5.9-1

The hal daemon no start anymore, and update of filesystem change and broken /etc/gshadow /etc/group /etc/profile and fixed reinstalling GDM, and releting and adding user again, because GDM is no group exist.
But hal not start, lshal --monitor no work and i use this command for view plugged and unplugged devices, pendrives, webcam, ups USB, etc.

hal is depreciated and isn't used for any software, you shouldn't need it anymore.
For checking of inserted media, you could use udev rules btw.
