I don't use pulseaudio, and vlc works fine for me with ALSA.

Well, i yes use pulseaudio, then the solution is not to use pulseaudio?, gnome3 will need to use it, so do not see it as a solution does not use pulseaudio, and indeed, the version http://schlunix.org/archlinux/extra/os/x86_64/vlc- 1.1.8-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz 1.1.8-2 does not have this bug, so it's a problem anywhere?.
I use pulseaudio and many people use it, do not understand your answer Giovanni, you cannot fix the bug?

The problem is not pulseaudio, alsa is in conjunction with pulseaudio on hda-intel boards, it is reported in alsa-project and redhat, just do some sound cards, such as the ALC888, the problem is that vlc version 1.1.9 generates a huge amount of deleted events, 4000 or more, and that creates noise and echo, normal and stable is between 10 and 40, considering that the bug on alsa not yet been repaired.
Still, if it is a problem of VLC team, and you do not know the code to fix the same, I am surprised and delighted that you have not tried the version 1.1.8-2 for suggest me (workaround), it works fine, you tells me on their part a total disregard for the problem, is a Windows or Ubuntu mode not use buggy software, if something not work fine, when it should be repaired!!, finding a workaround, as I do, using the 1.1.8-2 for example.
Then, I must inform all users that happen this bug to them using VLC version 1.1.8-2?, is my responsability?, I not understand your position as a developer, really.

Greetings

WHAT?
If something not work fine, it should be repaired???
I don't fix it!
I do my job as Arch Linux developer, I'm not here fixing other buggy software!
So, you can use vlc-1.1.8-2
Best regards!
