With Gnome 3 in testing I think it would be a good idea to
enable pulse audio in the mythtv package
(--enable-audio-pulse) and add pulse as an opt depend.
Users of pulse can't use mythfrontend without pulse support. |

I'm using it right now without pulse support - have you installed
the pulseaudio alsa package (can't remember exactly what it's
called, look on the wiki if needed)? However, I will rebuild if it
can atay as an optdepend

Yes and I have alsa support working, however in my case I did not
have any option to choose the "default" mixer option for alsa, I
was only able to pick items specific to my physical soundcard
(which of course did not work).

Terribly sorry, but I ditched pulseaudio. I wanted to update this
bug report but didn't get a chance. I got horrible static when
using mythtv and pulse so I gave up on pulse :(
