DetailsThe package 'vim,' unlike the package 'gvim,' is compiled without the --enable-pythoninterp option. This obviously means the :py command will not function. I just had to install the gvim package on a server completely without an X Server in order to enable the Python interpreter in VIM, without having to compile VIM myself.

what are you searching is gvim.

check the mailing lists for the endless discussion about it, in short just use gvim or ABS
