Description:

This is from mplayer2's README (http://git.mplayer2.org/mplayer2/tree/README):

"Most of the above libraries are available in suitable versions on normal
Linux distributions. However FFmpeg is an exception (distro versions may be
too old to work at all or work well). For that reason you may want to use
the separately available build wrapper that first compiles FFmpeg libraries
and libass, and then compiles the player statically linked against those."

However, Arch certainly doesn't have an outdated ffmpeg (at the time of this writing 20110330-1 is in the repos), and mplayer2's PKGBUILD uses sed to make sure mplayer2 is compiled against the system ffmpeg, so what seems like the sole reason for using mplayer2-build is void.
