The mplayer2 package doesn't have a desktop file. As a result, it has no corresponding context menu entries.
Can this be added in the future builds?

Attached mplayer.desktop from mplayer2-git (AUR).

Reason for closing:  Upstream

Also now makepkg has a !buildflags option which can be used instead of unset.

If it's not upstream, please submit it upstream.

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/23387 -  FS#23387  - [community] Cleanup of .desktop files

Also, from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Reporting_Bug_Guidelines
"Reasons for not being a bug ... A package which does not include a .desktop file or icons or other freedesktop stuff. This is not a bug if such files are not included in the source tarball, and this must be requested as a feature request upstream. If such files are provided by upstream but not used in the package then this is a bug. "

Who said this is a bug?

Task Type Feature Request

There is a .desktop file in source but it's for gmplayer. Also, this request is for getting the correct file associations with mplayer2.

Under "Reasons for not being a feature"
"... upstream feature."

I consider this an upstream feature.

  • Field changed: Summary ([mplayer] missing desktop file → [mplayer2] missing desktop file)
  • Field changed: Status (Unconfirmed → Assigned)
  • Task assigned to Stéphane Gaudreault (stephane)
This is a valid FR. Bugging upstream about desktop files is a good habit, but in the meantime distributions can fill in.

Imo, this attitude is why we have so many dangling .desktop files in the first place.
The way I see it, we either close as won't implement or we remove the .desktop file entry from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Reporting_Bug_Guidelines
Anything besides that is contradictory.

This should be sent upstream, not in the Arch bugtracker.

I opened a ticket upstream for this : http://devel.mplayer2.org/ticket/22
