Description:

Once upgraded libnotify to 0.7.1, gnome-settings daemon is not starting anymore, givin this error:

(gnome-settings-daemon:3743): libnotify-WARNING **: you must call notify_init() before showing
libnotify:ERROR:notification.c:514:notify_notification_show: code should not be reached

Seems to be a libnotify bug (http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358535) because apparently downgrading would solve the problem (I can't try since I can't find a 0.4.0-2 package of notification-daemon, that depends on libnofity 0.7)

I can now confirm: downgrading libnotify 0.7 (and all his dependencies) to previous version will fix the problem

before trying to dig into this, you are fully up to date?

you have gnome-settings-daemon 2.32.1-3 with libnotify 0.7?

Yes: gnome-settings-daemon-2.32.1-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz is tha package I have in pacman cache

Does pacman -Qi gnome-settings-daemon |grep -i version say the same?
