Solution:
Apparently Gajim requires hicolor-icon-theme as a runtime dependency.

Additional info:
I discovered this error while doing a fresh install of Parabola GNU/Linux today. After installing xorg and lxde I installed gajim and tried to run it, which produced the error provided above. As I see hicolor-icon-theme is not a dependency of the ArchLinux gajim package so most probably this affects Arch too.

Just confirmed this on a fresh ArchLinux installation too. I get the exact same error and gajim fails to start. Once again, installing hicolor-icon-theme fixes the issue.
