Mounting hal-managed mount-points still doesn't seem to work properly, at least for my optical drives. I put a disc in, try to get gnome to mount it, and get a wrong fs-type or bad option error. I edit my fstab to remove the 'managed' option and find the problem disappears. I thought the managed keyword was supposed to be in a comment field now, or something... it ain't.

That's what hal put in my /etc/fstab for my CD writer.

aha! I have it - hal must have left entries in my fstab from when it used the old method.. and now it doesn't know to remove them... yup - deleting those entries and removing the mount-point manually fixes this. Sorry about the noise.
