Description:
latest ati-dri 7.10.0.git20110215-1 leads to X segfaulting on startup when KMS is off.

On my machine, I could fix this by downgrading ati-dri (and libgl with it) or by turning KMS on with radeon.modeset=1, it was set to 0 before.

Additional info:
ati-dri 7.10.0.git20110215-1
Radeon HD 4250 onboard
kernel 2.6.37.1-1

Last time I upgraded, I had similar problems too.

X starts correctly (slim), then, 2 o 3 seconds after loading the window manager (E17), my computer frozes with some screen garbage on the bottom-right corner.

kernel 2.6.37
kms on (I tried with kms off, same problem)
ati-dri 7.10.0.git20110215-1
Radeon HD 3200

Downgrading ati-dri, libgl (and mesa) fixed this issue.

KMS is the only recommended way now for a long time. Closing this one. If you have a serious bug with KMS and cannot find it in other bug reports or the forum solved open a new one with all needed logs and look out for upstream bugs or file a new one.
