After hitting [enter] on the package selection introduction message, AIF quits immediately.

The AIF version is rebranded for Parabola (only message texts were changed). You can find the changes here:

it looks to me like you're using an outdated libui-sh

It's 2010-08-19, it's the latest release I believe...

there is no such Arch release. Maybe a parabola release..
And even if there was, it would be silly to run the latest aif against a libui-sh of 6 months old.
