Most likely it'll have to be patched.

using ./configure --prefix=/usr, make prefix=$startdir/pkg/usr DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install seems to get me the farthest, but it also puts the texi2html stuff in totally the wrong place.

Either way, it still dies with a updmap error:
updmap: This is updmap, version 1107552857
updmap: no permissions for writing /usr/share/texmf-var/web2c/updmap.log', so no
transcript
updmap: output directory `/usr/share/texmf-var/fonts/map/dvips/updmap' does not
exist.

Looks like updmap isn't reading prefix *or* DESTDIR.
