DetailsDescription: xfce4-panel fails to start, won't connect to the session-manager when started manually.
-> start X, 5 error dialog boxes come up: Failed to restart the panel No running instance of xfce4-panel was found -> start panel manually, get error message: $ xfce4-panel: Failed to connect to session manager: Failed to connect to the session manager: SESSION_MANAGER environment variable not defined weather icons huge (x10) and distorted -> try to logout: Are you sure you want to quit the panel? You have started X without session manager. Clicking Quit will close the X server. Press 'Quit' - does nothing. Additional info: * package version(s) $ xfce4-panel --version xfce4-panel 4.8.1 (Xfce 4.8.0) * config and/or log files etc. .xinitrc: exec ck-launch-session startxfce4 Steps to reproduce: startx |

i tested xfce4 with exec ck-launch-session xfce4-session

works for me. you may try to clear the cache for the session. several such solutions can be found in the forum threads.
