DetailsThe source distribution for Vim includes a copy of the X rgb database, rgb.txt. Some Linux distributions include this file (at least Debian and Ubuntu), Arch does not.
The reason I suggest including it is primarily that some Vim plugins rely on it for things like finding color names and translating color names to RGB values. Vim plugins have no other practical means to do this. Vim's documentation (under :help rgb.txt) also suggests that the file should be included. That said, there are some possible arguments against including the file. It's technically an obsolete file as far as Xorg is concerned, and the help document cited above is Windows-specific (Vim probably needs the file to translate color names on Windows, while I imagine it gets by with XParseColor under X). In the past it was also redundant, since there was typically a nearly-identical file in the X distribution. This is no longer the case, of course. Given the relative ease of including the file, the benefit of allowing plugins to use it seems to outweigh the cost, since it has no negative impact on functionality and at 20k it doesn't add much to the package size. Thank you. |

I know there might be other plugins which depend on the missing file. I also downloaded the Vim sources from vim.org and saw that rgb.txt is included in the vim distribution but it's not included in the Arch Linux 'vim' package.
Please include this file in the Arch Linux Vim package.
Sincerely.
