Summary and Info:

When using portuguese language (LOCALE=pt_PT.UTF-8), pacman -Qi package has an output with an ugly format,
like this example:

# pacman -Qi dbus

Descrição : Freedesktop.org message bus system

Steps to Reproduce:
Not having portuguese locales we have to generate them.
Edit /etc/locale.gen, uncomment #pt_PT.UTF-8, #pt_PT ISO-8859-1, #pt_PT@euro ISO-8859-15.
Then run locale-gen
After locales are created, if we try:

# export LANG=pt_PT.UTF-8; pacman -Qi dbus
# export LANG=pt_PT; pacman -Qi dbus
# export LANG=pt_PT@euro; pacman -Qi dbus
# export LANG=C; pacman -Qi dbus

all "pt" locales have incorrect tabs between fields like the example above.

LANG=C has this output:

# export LANG=C; pacman -Qi dbus

I tested locales fr_FR.UTF-8, es_ES-UTF-8, de_DE.UTF-8, and the output had a proper format like the C locale.

In the example I wrote, the spaces between fields ":" were cut after adding the comment.
You have to reproduce in your computer to see the real output.

pt_BR is OK, as a slightly related side note. It does have very similar translations for the Qi business.

Really, we just need someone to update the translation strings and address spacing issues. Not sure why in updating other things this commit (http://projects.archlinux.org/pacman.git/commit/?id=c2993) broke these.

  • Field changed: Due in Version (4.1.0 → 4.2.0)
Asked the translators to be careful with this, but will be fixed in the source in 4.2 if not fixed in 4.1.

It just seems like whoever did the pt translations did not use a monospace font when doing the translations.
