DetailsDescription:
I installed XFCE (4.6, updated to 4.8) on my netbook but I cannot set it to display french. The keyboard also can't be set to the one I'm used to. I was using KDE before but switched because of its size. KDE had no trouble displaying in the correct language and keyboard settings. Arch's /etc/rc.conf allows me to set up KEYMAP="cf" which is exactly what I need. In XFCE, in the keyboard layout preference window, I can set Canada as country and either "French (legacy)", "Multilingual" or empty for the layout but none has the same effect as KEYMAP="cf": there is always some keys which are not the same. Note that I tried with the "Generic 105-key (Intl) PC" keyboard model. Selecting "Use system default" result in using a USA qwerty keyboard. Another issue is that echoing $LANG in XFCE's terminal reports nothing. Switching to a virtual terminal and echoing the same variable will show "fr_CA.UTF-8". It seems that XFCE can't detect my settings correctly... KDE did. |
