I've just finished liaising with Bash (Andrea) to get the relevant Python v3 dependencies (i.e. "python-sip", "python-qt" and "python-qscintilla") of Eric v5 put into 'extra'.

As a result, the stable Eric v5 can also be moved into 'extra'. Call it 'eric' and rename the legacy Eric v4 to 'eric4'. There's an 'eric5' package in 'community' that you can refer to.
This task depends upon

+1 to move to [community]

-1 to the naming..I don't think it's the right time to rename eric5 to eric, because they don't really have a default download.

The Eric v5 edition is considered stable on its website. I've been using it for weeks without any problems.

Since Python v3 is now the default (python3 --> python), stable packages that depend on it should be too (eric5 --> eric).

@Brad what do you think? eric in community too following this schema:

eric should be updated to version 5, replaces eric5
eric4 new package to support python2

Sounds perfectly logical to me. Are there any developers (Ray in particular) that would like to work something out (i.e., eric -> community "eric4", eric5 -> extra "eric")?

Brad, I'll be working with you to have both erics in [extra]. We don't have any other Python IDE, so I don't want to move them wholesale to [community]. Having only eric5 in [extra] would be pointless since according to pkgstats it is not even in the list while eric4 is. Whaddya think?

BTW, aren't we missing an eric5-plugins?

Sounds fine to me. I agree, between the two, it doesn't seem right to separate them amongst different repositories.

I suppose we are missing an "eric5-plugins". Looking at the PKGBUILD for eric-plugins, it seems as if we could just make a few minor adjustments to the installation directories and package it as "eric5-plugins". Sound alright to you? :-)

Oh God, I keep forgetting about this. Adding myself to be responsible too.

Yes, an eric5-plugins is definitely warranted. I don't think a split package is possible/a good idea, though, if anyone's wondering.

Alright, I can definitely agree with you on that. I suppose I'll be in charge of creating an eric5-plugins for the time being.

Here's my plan of attack for this transition:
* eric5-plugins is uploaded to [community]
* eric and eric-plugins are renamed to eric4 and eric4-plugins
* eric5 and eric5-plugins are renamed to eric and eric-plugins
* (the new) eric and eric-plugins are moved to [extra]

Sounds good.

I have built and submitted an eric5-plugins package. Could you change eric and eric-plugins to eric4 and eric4-plugins?

Alright, thanks. I forgot about some technicalities, so you'll notice I changed the "plan" a bit. I'll be "moving" your package first. Here's why/how:

* update 'eric' to v5 release, replacing 'eric5', and push that to [staging].

So, I'll now be reflecting your 'eric5' buildscripts into 'eric'. After that I'll just add the previous 'eric' as 'eric4' (also to [staging]). I'll take care of the removal from [community] as well, so you needn't worry about that.

I'll try to get this done within the day.
