sdl_mixer misses a dependency on libmikmod, which causes a non-working sdl_mixer when not installed by hand. Found this out while packaging an updated crimson, which was complaining about missing audio support

I have the same problem with sdl_mixer even with mikmod installed still no sound ,,,

Used old version (abs) sdl_mixer 1.2.5-2

Sound works again

sdl_mixer 1.2.6 diffently breaks any app trying to open the OSS sound device /dev/dsp or /dev/sound/dsp. Both supertux and frozen-bubble will just hang. Strace shows the sound device open() call as the problem. Downgrading to sdl_mixer 1.2.5 fixes the problem.

Seems to be a locking issue: I know the times when my browser would hang while playing music using xmms: xmms locks /dev/dsp, browser has flash plugin and waits forever trying to lock sound device whenever a stupid flash ad with sound appears in my browser.

I haven't noticed any problems with sdl_mixer 1.2.6 because I have a soundblaster live, which supports hardware stream mixing.

I too have a soundblaster live card and I made sure nothing else was trying to use dsp device. Running just X and default, out of the box, icewm. SDL apps still hangs trying to open /dev/sound/dsp. In my case I doubt this is a locking issue. If I configure xmms to use oss and the same dsp device it works fine. This problem is isolated to SDL.
