The postfix package doesn't have a version constraint on the db package, but fails to start if the proper version of libdb is not installed. sudo postfix start postfix: error while loading shared libraries: libdb-5.1.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory pacman -Qi postfix | grep Depends Depends On : pcre libsasl libmysqlclient postgresql-libs>=8.4 libldap>=2.4 db Earlier versions of the postfix package (2.7.1-1, e.g.) had the version dependency: pacman -Qi postfix | grep Depends Depends On : pcre libsasl libmysqlclient postgresql-libs>=8.4 libldap>=2.4 db>=4.8 Additional info: * postfix 2.7.2-1 |

You should fully update your system. The versioned dependency is omited to make sure you don't break your complete system when you don't update your system.
