The only place I can find the "$TERM too long - sorry" error message is to do with GNU screen, but that has been fixed. Is this still an issue?

I believe I could reproduce it by sshing to a non-Arch machine (i.e. a Debian or Redhat system)
I used to work on such machines often at my previous job, but now I don't have access to those anymore so I can't check.

This is still an issue when ssh'ing into non-arch machines (e.g. debian or ubuntu). I'm currently using aterm for ssh'ing into those machines.
For reference, a ubuntu machine I can't ssh to with urxvt has screen version 4.00.03jw4. Is arch's screen patched by the devs or is this solved by upstream but not landed in those other distros?

screen has not had an upstream release in many years. The patch is from the upstream bug tracker. Anyway, this appears to be not something fixable by Arch.

so what's the cleanest way that keeps us able to ssh into other machines? shorten $TERM ?

@Ramses de Norre: you should file a bug report against gnu screen to the distributions you ssh into. Alternatively rxvt-unicode upstream requesting to shorten $TERM
