DetailsFonts are just not right under gnome. they have zero antialiasing *no matter* what option I try on the Fonts preference panel. It looks like a freaking windows 95. It's ugly. I am using the Vera fonts and I also told it to use AA and also tried Arial, Verdana, but to no avail.
The weird thing is, KDE apps are fully antia-aliased and the fonts look as they should. In fact, look at the screenshot and check how lovely the fonts are on the KDE app and how flat they are on gnome: http://gnomefiles.org/shots/fonts.png I put Vera on purpose to be that big in the font panel, and yet Gnome does NOT change its font settings on its applications. This is a bug and degrades the desktop experience. |

Ehm, I don't see anything wrong in your screenshots. The fonts look good on gnome too and they're anti-aliased on your screenshot.

Yes, but they are extremely slightly AA. KDE's fonts are more AA'ed, and on MacOSX my fonts are AA even if they are as small (Vera Sans, size 10). Gnome's fonts in that size don't look as good as KDE's or OSX's. They look like non-AA on my LCD. And if I select the LCD option, the AA goes off _completely_, which doesn't make any sense! I am sure there is something wrong here.

Well.. your fonts look already _AAed_.. still if u want use the "Best Shapes" Option in the Font Rendering properties. this should work.
