Description:
Embedded eps file fails to display in xdvi. xdvi use ghostsript to display the image, I do not know if this bug is xdvi or ghostscript related. But the problems have appeared since the last upgrade of ghostscript to version 9.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
ghostscript 9.00-1 and texlive-bin 2010.1-5

* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
Create a dvi file with an eps image (\includegraphics{image.eps} in LaTeX) and display it with xdvi.

Please test gs 9.00-2 from testing. If it keeps failing please provide .dvi file that I can test.

Olive, please try enabling anti-aliasing in xdvi. This works for me (i686).

Actually, I wasn't totally clear: antialising (AA) is only needed when dealing with special figures, notably coming from gnuplot, when using fillcurves. Other figures, produced e.g. by asymptote/dvips are displayed OK with or without AA.

I just tested gs 9.00-2 with the same result. W/o AA the error is:
xdvik: read_from_gs: Connection reset by peer

I am attaching eps+tex (please run 'latex *.tex') for each case... thanks.

The issue persists with gs 9.00-2. However enabling antialiasing as suggested by Leonid Isaev (lisaev) does works (so the problem becomes minor but there is still an anomaly). I attach a test file. The eps file was produced by gnuplot (I produce it with the plot2d command of maxima that generate a gnuplot file to be parsed by gnuplot to produce the eps).

State? Any upstream report you have made we can follow? If not this one will get closed as "upstream". It's not a packaging bug it seems.

Not changed

I took the liberty to open a ticket at http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691919

I agree. In fact, I would vote for this

testing/ghostscript 9.01-1 fixes the issue for me on i686... thanks.
