Update of scrollkeeper 0.3.14-2 and possibly related readline 5.0-2 produces the following pacman error:

updating scrollkeeper catalogue ...
sh: error while loading shared libraries: libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
upgrading readline... done.

The following gnome packages were updated in this pass (and this is where I assume the scrollkeeper update came from): gnome-common-2.8.0-6 gnome-panel-2.8.2-2

Bash requires readline, which is not on the system when the pre_upgrade script (if any) is called. This is what I think pacman is doing when it is trying to install the new readline.
Somehow, bash is launched during the readline upgrade, which doesn't work, because readline is not on the system at that moment.
It's more a warning than an error because the readline script doesn't have a pre_upgrade script.

As I said in Task #2189 — Bug after upgrade:

This error makes your system UNBOOTABLE.

When I try to reboot, I get this message with some error about kdm no being able to start. I tried to boot to a bash shell and it doesn`t work: I get this error with a kernel panic.
