DetailsDescription:
Starting from mplayer vaapi 32630, osd messages appears not to support transparency anymore. Additional info: * package version(s) 32630 * config and/or log files etc. Steps to reproduce: -have an nvidia videocard supporting vdpau decoding in hardware -launch mplayer this way: mplayer hdfile.mkv -vo vaapi:gl -va vaapi -fs -osdlevel 2 -sub-bg-alpha 127 -as soon as mplayer starts playing, see the osd messages. -switch to the previous version of mplayer-vaapi and repeat the steps. I don't need extra vdpau functions like postprocessing or deinterlacing, so vaapi is fine.
Your best bet is probably to talk to mplayer-vaapi's developer, Gwenole Beauchesne [gbeauchesne at splitted-desktop.com], and let him know about this.
