Details

Description:
Starting from mplayer vaapi 32630, osd messages appears not to support transparency anymore.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
32630
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
-have an nvidia videocard supporting vdpau decoding in hardware
-launch mplayer this way:
mplayer hdfile.mkv -vo vaapi:gl -va vaapi -fs -osdlevel 2 -sub-bg-alpha 127
-as soon as mplayer starts playing, see the osd messages.
-switch to the previous version of mplayer-vaapi and repeat the steps.
See how the osd message is different, now the osd message edges are smoother and the background box is half transparent.

if you are using vaapi with nvidia then you are doing it wrong.

mplayer has native support for vdpau and is 9999999999 times better than vaapi

Probably this is true for you, but for me using vdpau via mplayer leads to frequent X.org crashes, not to mention tearing on vdpau surface when mplayer is embedded in external controls like smplayer or xt7-player.
I don't need extra vdpau functions like postprocessing or deinterlacing, so vaapi is fine.

yeah, 260.x series is buggy

I have no idea how to approach this issue, as I don't own an NVIDIA card to reproduce it.

Your best bet is probably to talk to mplayer-vaapi's developer, Gwenole Beauchesne [gbeauchesne at splitted-desktop.com], and let him know about this.

Can you please test mplayer-vaapi-32825-1? It should work, as it includes the patch you received.

Tested, now works as expected.
Thank you very much!.
