Description:

Since KDE SC 4.5.2 I've been having these lines on my desktop almost every time I login. I have to log out several times (sometimes even restart) for them to disappear. I'm running KDE in 1680x1050 on a nvidia 9800 GT card. Here is my xorg.conf

Section "Device"
Identifier "G92 [GeForce 9800 GT]"
Driver "nvidia"
EndSection

the rest I let the xserver automically handle and that has always worked fine. I've attached a screendump of my desktop with the lines.

Same problem here.

Architecture x86_64
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT

I think it is not related to nVidia driver.

Settings off dektop efects no problem.

I think this is an Arch problem. I don't know for other distros too.

OK, I haven't tried to turn off the desktop effects.

I tried it now and it seems to work. The graphical corruption doesn't appear but I really use those desktop effects... :(

Life is very hard ;-)

The Plasma Screen is writed in two times.

First it is writed in low resolution (upper left corner). Last in normal resolution.

I can't see this ... bug? in other distros.

I like use the effects too :-(

There is no corruption, is another window, just kill it. I experimented this some time ago, so I killed the window and never show again.

Yeah that is what it looks like but how do I kill it?
Comment by Andrea Scarpino (BaSh) - Monday, 29 November 2010, 22:08 GMT
TuxLin we use a vanilla KDE, please say in which distro you "didn't see this bug" so I can see what patches they applied. Also, we use xorg-server 1.9.2.

BTW, KDE 4.5.4 will be released tomorrow.

I can't remember how I removed it. Maybe was a "kill PID" or just selecting another "activity" and going back to original.

BaSh, I don't know which distro. I have not see this bug in another distro, Fedora, Mandriva, PcLinuxOS, for example.

OK, I restored an old profile backup to reproduce this thing and solve it.

Change desktop theme to any other -> Apply -> Change back to original theme -> Apply. Thats all ;)

I've tried what djgera suggested and it does remove the corruption but for it still appears at the next login (sometimes). It seems like it is an issue with the air theme its relatives. The corruption doesn't appear with other themes like heron etc.

which driver are you using? [testing] enabled?
Comment by André Fettouhi (A.Fettouhi) - Thursday, 09 December 2010, 13:08 GMT
I'm using the latest nvidia beta driver from AUR and I'm not running [testing]. I've been running stable stable nvidia from {extra] also but the corruption is still present there and has been since KDE 4.5.2.

If I erase ~/desktop/Home.desktop file, the corruption appears in the next login (only after new boot).

It seems like if this file is there, no corruption occurs.

Yes, it seems this issue is only related with the Air Theme.

I think is not a nVidia issue.

My Home.desktop has always been there so should I delete it?
Comment by A.F.G. (TuxLin) - Thursday, 09 December 2010, 17:41 GMT
No. I think this file must be there.

But if I delete it, the corruption appears in the next login after boot.
I had not this file in my desktop directory and I copy it from /root/desktop some days ago. Suddenly my problem has gone.
Then when I deleted it the problem has returned.
With this file in ~/desktop I have no problem.
???

Sorry for my bad english ;-) but I only speak spanish.

Well I still get the corruption with or without the Home.desktop file.
