* This occurs since 0.5.2-1 version upgraded on november 17, 2010.
* This does not affects to xfce4 itself (laptop battery notifications are still shown properly).
* Reverting to previous 0.4.5-1.1 solves the problem.

Steps to reproduce:

In a xfce4 desktop run (with xfce4-notifyd running):

I am experiencing the same issue with notify-send on upgrading libnotify from 0.4.5-1.1 -> 0.5.2-1. I do not however have xfce4-notifyd installed, thus can not test the fedora patch (just openbox + libnotify here). Presumably it is unrelated to xfce4-notifyd too then.
BTW Ionut, that link is broken: http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/gitweb/?p=xfce4-notifyd.git;a=blob;f=xfce4-notifyd-0.1.0-send-second-arg-notification-closed.patch;h=db76e7e1f3589f5fc86188e965f5045aa65cc89f;hb=c553d5c8dca786d3c5173ccd5e1f7f468745ff5a

because in fedora 14 xfce4-notifyd was update to 0.2.0 and the patch is no longer required.

try that yourself and see if is working

As a workaround, you can install notification-daemon as a replacement for xfce4-notifyd. The notifications are less pretty but seem just as functional.

this is still a problem with xfce 4.8?

xfce4-notifyd 0.2.0-1 seems to play nice with libnotify 0.5.2-1 for me here.
