Description:

Why don't to add fm-radio support to mplayer? It had worked fine for me, when I rebuilt mplayer with --enable-radio and --enable-radio-capture in the config options.

The main reason for such a step is a lack of fm-radio applications in Linux (or at least in Arch'a repos + AUR). KRadio is a nice one, but it fits only those, who uses KDE. I've tried gnome-radio and gqradio, but it's hard to tune they to use 32000 Hz samplerate for raw audiostream. Mplayer give us a common approach to tv and radio configuration. Moreover, while using smplayer it's easy to view tv, listen to radio and watch movies in one place.

not everyone has a card capable for that and it doesn't have a great interest compared with vdpau for example.

for that exists abs to easy customize officially packages

Yes, not everyone. And not everyone has a card capable for watching tv, but this feature is included in mplayer. As far, as I see, fm-radio suport doesn't create any additional dependencies and it does not consumes any additional resources if it is not used. So, why not to include it? As for the abs -- this is a way how I've got fm-radio for me, but now I need to rebuild mplayer every time mplayer updates. Also, I'm sure, there are people, who use Arch configured by somebody else and who is not enough advanced to make such update by themselves.

the tv support is enabled by default upstream compared with radio support which is disabled by default.

that's why we have support for it.
