The VLC package distributed by Arch Linux has an incorrect license field.

It should be GPL2 instead of GPL.

Noticed this after all the fuss over vlc and Apple. Makes me wonder how many Arch packages have incorrect licenses fields.

GPL2 in the license field means "GPL2 only"[1], but vlc is licensed "under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version."[2]

So, GPL ("GPLv2 or any later version"[1]) is fine.
