Description:
xorg seems stuck in a detecting monitor loop. Xorg.0.log show "RADEON(0): EDID vendor XXX", "Using hsync ranges from config file", "Using vrefresh ranges from config file", "Printing DDC gathered Modelines", plus a list of Modeline lines. Then a few *milliseconds* later, the same lines over and over again.

They are tagged as "(II)" (informational), but it shouldn't be producing a nearly 300M Xorg.0.log

# grep -c "Printing DDC gathered Modelines" Xorg.0.log
128611

I am using xorg-server 1.9.0-1 but I never noticed such thing until today, so perhaps the was some conflict with some of the new xorg-server-utils packages?

This task depends upon

I guess you're using xf86-video-ati? This is usually a bug in the driver, the utils and apps have nothing to do with this. Can you give the version of xf86-video-ati?
Comment by Linas (Linas) - Monday, 01 November 2010, 15:33 GMT
I think so. I have xf86-video-ati version 6.13.2-1 installed 05 oct 2010.

I have found that wine seems related. Killing the wineserver the scrolling stopped. I get 5 blocks on starting it, but it's not directly going crazy. I upgraded wine yesterday from 1.3.5-1 to 1.3.6-1.

Is this still an issue with the current driver and kernel when using KMS?

I am also experiencing this bug, but with Intel GPU chipset not ati...
It never happened to me before until recently and it makes X really slow, really anoying - I cannot use Arch properly...
It is not a hardware fault, I checked with other (live) distros...

Full details at: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=126371&p=1

I used Xorg 1.10.3 1.10.4 and 1.11.0 and it is the same, but I never experienced this before...
I also reinstalled Arch, but X is still acting exactly the same way...

There's certainly less of them than before, I think it may be a side effect of another fix, but as you can see, still a lot of them is printed in a loop.

I could fall asleep accidentally during boot. All packages are from extra and up-to-date.
