Details

With latest ROOT build (5.26.00e-2) pyroot has disappeared (no ROOT.py in /usr/lib/root).
Maybe a consequence of the switch python2->python3 as default ?

(If I may add a wish, I'd like to have —enable-roofit... I know I can compile it myself, but I think quite a few users use Roofit actually.)

Hm, I guess enabling python didn't do it, my intention was never to remove ROOT.py from the package, it indeed is a result of the switch and I will look into it soon.

I recompiled root fixing the python error, but it still didn't include ROOT.py even though I compiled with --enable-roofit
If you have any insight on this, please let me know, otherwise, I will keep looking for a solution.
