The missing /etc/zshrc in the zsh package results in missing environment variables, especially $PATH and $MANPATH need to be adjusted through the scripts some packages put in /etc/profile.d so things like /opt/gnome/bin get added automaticly.

I've created a minimal /etc/zshrc which does just what it has to do (plus some minor IMHO essential thing which are optional):

---snip---
#
# /etc/zshrc
#

# first source bash's /etc/profile to get everything
# usable (esp. PATH) from there
source /etc/profile

# then set a prompt usable by zsh
PROMPT=$'[%~]\n%m$ '

# everything below here is optional
# (not related to the reported bug)

# history
HISTFILE=~/.zsh_history
HISTSIZE=500
SAVEHIST=500

# key bindings
bindkey "^[[2~" yank
bindkey "^[[3~" delete-char
bindkey "^[[5~" up-line-or-history ## PageUp
bindkey "^[[6~" down-line-or-history ## PageDown
bindkey "^[[H" beginning-of-line
bindkey "^[[F" end-of-line
bindkey "^[e" expand-cmd-path ## C-e for expanding path of typed command
bindkey "^[[A" up-line-or-search ## up arrow for back-history-search
bindkey "^[[B" down-line-or-search ## down arrow for fwd-history-search

Reason for closing:  Fixed
Additional comments about closing:  it seems it is in sync with /etc/profile now.

Sorry, I did not know the BTS uses "#" as a markup char, I attached the zshrc as a seperate file.

/etc/zsh/zprofile was added to zsh 4.2.4-1.
zsh should behave better now.
