Details
/etc/rc.d/mdadm can be used to start mdadm in monitor mode
once the system is booted up and if an array breaks it will
send an email to MAILADDR (from the config). However this
doesn't work if the array broke before mdadm has been
started (during boot for example). Attached patch fixes the
issue.

What's the status of this issue?
There hasn't yet been a new mdadm release so let's be patient.
Isn't the fix to apply the patch you proposed above?
Yeah, but it's not worth releasing a new version of a core package
(which will have to got through testing).
I cannot seem to find the mdadm bugtracker. (Does it even have a
bugtracker?) Is this issue being tracked upstream as well?
