Summary and Info:
Can't update system due corrupted package file smbnetfs or pacman failure.

Steps to Reproduce:
pacman -Syu

checking package integrity...
error: error while reading package /var/cache/pacman/pkg/smbnetfs-0.5.3a-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz: Pathname in pax header can't be converted to current locale.

rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/smbnetfs-0.5.3a-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -Syu

same as above

Hm, can package from your cache be extracted with tar? Strange issue...

works with
LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 pacman -S smbnetfs
or
LC_ALL=en_US.utf8 bsdtar -tf /var/cache/pacman/pkg/smbnetfs-0.5.3a-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz

otherwise without utf8 fails:

bsdtar: Pathname in pax header can't be converted to current locale.
usr/share/doc/smbnetfs-0.5.3а/

tar should not be used here, because of extended headers "SCHILY.*"
