Description:
Yesterday, a couple of days after recent xorg 1.9 update, KMS causes my ATI system to kernel-panic on boot. Disabling KMS using radeon.modeset=0 from the kernel line brings the system up fine.

Additional info:
* fully updated [testing]
* fully updated [multilib]

Steps to reproduce:
- use ATI card with radeon module
- follow wiki for early modesetting
- kernel panics at module loading

no problems here in kms late mode. try early mode with kernel append "debug" option.

I'll try that. Neither early nor late mode work with 2.6.35.4 kernel, I've downgraded to .3 and that's fine (no Xv though).

Ok, what should i do with the debug option? Add it onto the kernel line in grub, and then?

in late mode it may give you some detailed output when it crashes. can you post something about the kernel crash? maybe you need to add addtional modules to load before the radeon module that it depends on.

Well. I've tried updating today, after removing the packages from my cache, and it works. Sorry about that!
