I have an IBM Thinkpad x30 with an Intel Almador(830MG) graphics card. When I finally managed to boot the installer from a CD drive (wasn't that easy...) connected via an USB adapter, I saw the boot menu, then, after pressing enter, a lot of text lines saying the system is loading. After those, I should have seen login prompt and typed /arch/setup, however, all I saw was a blank screen. I was able to start the installer but I was moving around blindly; finally I had to connect the netbook's hard drive with my pc in order to install Arch on it.

I have tried various vga= modes, none of those have helped. As for now, Arch can't be installed on x30 in a decent way.

Reproducibility: always

Steps to reproduce: boot an Arch 2010.05 netinstall i686 on the IBM Thinkpad x30 with the Intel graphics (I guess the way you do it doesn't matter).

Lots of thing are fixed on newer kernels about KMS (and new bugs introduced) anyway we need a newer installation medias, sure.

You can construct your installation iso in few steps with all packages up-to-date. This iso will work better (I guess).

pacman -S devtools --needed
mkarchroot /tmp/somedir base
mkarchroot -r bash /tmp/somedir
echo 'Server = http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch'; >> /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
pacman -S git squashfs-tools syslinux devtools cdrkit make nbd mkinitcpio-nfs-utils
cd /tmp
git clone git://projects.archlinux.org/archiso.git
cd archiso/archiso
make install
cd ../configs/syslinux-iso/
make net-iso

Can you try running a recent testbuild?
