DetailsDescription:
Xorg began hanging after 256.44-1 update of nvidia. At least two situations trigger hang: 1. using compiz: some 1-10 minutes after startup with no apparent reason. Using metacity with compositing or openbox+xcompmgr does NOT trigger hangs. 2. launching megaglest: 0-1 seconds after start. Launching some other 3D games, like sauerbraten, does NOT trigger hangs. X hangs hard. It is not possible to switch to VT, even in blind. SysRq keys work. It is possible to access machine via ssh. X process takes 100% cpu and can not be killed with "kill -9". It is possible to reboot machine properly via ssh. Bug is connected to NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 card + 256.44 drivers. (at least it does not happen with 6600 GT card and/or nvidia 195* drivers) Recent kernel26 2.6.35.3-1 update and nvidia 256.44-2 rebuild did not change situation. hang-related kernel.log part upon launching megaglest is attached |
