I install kdelibs and kdebase from kde-cvs, I use abs to install the packages, the version I assign them is 3.3.91. I did this thinking this would enable me to run kdelibs-cvs and kdebase-cvs along side the normal arch packages for kde (ie kdemultimedia/kdepim/kdenetwork/etc.)

Unfortunately these packages require exactly kdelibs=3.3.2, which means pacman tries to install kdelibs-3,3.2 whenever I pacman -Syu. So I have to edit the package depend files for the packages that require kdelibs=3.3.2 to say kdelibs>=3.3.2

I was wondering if the packages could be made to depend on kdelibs and kdebase >=3.3.2? Hope this is possible, many thanks.

why don't you update the packages to higher versions?
i can add this but this may cause problems if the api changes.
with kde4 this will come and i don't know if kde 3.4 is fully compatible with 3.3

aha now I understand. So pacman needs a little extension so you can do

kdelibs >=3.3.2 && <=4

If I could figure out how to get pacman CVS I'd write a patch, or should I submit patches against the current version? I can't figure it out.

Also I don't want to upgrade everything, just kdelibs and kdebase, everything else is too much maintenance to run CVS copies. I run CVS because I develop KDE stuff.

Thanks, feel free to close it, hope you can answer my question.

but for next release i can add this > to the packages, but i don't want to update 200mb that every user have to redownload now.
and if you could make a bug entry for that pacman wish, would be great
thanks.
