Description:

0.9.7-1 is a development version, in RC1, and I believe there is policy in Arch to not push RCs to standard repos. There are many changes in the backend and under the hood of this version that are still currently being worked on. I would suggest the package be reverted to the stable 0.5 version, and that if 0.9.7-1 needs to be in extra already, it be moved as 'pcmanfm2' to prevent problems and let users merge to it as they please, at least until the stable release is out. I would also suggest that the package be run through the testing repo first.

According to PCMan on his blog, packagers and users should be following this guide - http://wiki.lxde.org/en/PCManFM_build_and_setup_guide for proper packaging and use. As I read it there are dependencies no longer required still in the PKGBUILD itself as well, which leads me to think this whole matter needs to be re-evaluated.

The stable version is unusable due to changes in GTK and is no longer maintained upstream. As for the dependencies: multiple bugreports have been filed for those.

AFAIK the only 'unusable' part in stable is detail view, and switching to another view or switching to single click works around this. We are basically as I see it in limbo between a bugged stable version and a bugged RC1. I still believe 0.9.7 should at least be packaged differently to allow users a choice rather than making them manually downgrade and ignore if they are unhappy with the current situation with the RC1.

Is this bug still applicable today - version 0.9.8-1?

After looking around, IMO the situation is somehow like:
- the legacy file manager is completely abandoned upstream (AFAIK) and not in line with the latest changes of the systems or dependencies. If a relief for you, Burlynn, the upcoming Debian stable (Squeeze), frozen in August, includes exclusively (so called "pcmanfm") the new code, v0.9.7 ( http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/pcmanfm ) - actually the version reported here.
- the legacy file manager exists in AUR http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=42550 . A wiki entry could specify this option for people who need to downgrade, after a decision is taken.
- pcmanfm is currently in a transitory state and the developer stated at one point that the decision to officially make a final 1.0 release will depend on teams from some Linux distros, including Arch. That means that the decision to have it here or in testing "officially" belongs to the Arch team: http://blog.lxde.org/?p=727 . I can't say for sure, but in my opinion, going through Arch's testing repository can be considered a validation process - the same process that applies to all the packages.
- as of today, pretty many users use it every day as their file manager and it seems stable - the last bug I am aware of is apparently fixed in the last version (0.9.8-3), which is currently in the testing repo ( https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=851160#p851160 ).

So based on this, if you agree, this is an Arch issue and may be closed as a "bug", resuming, if the case, on the other (functionality) reports, as usual.
