my first entry here. sorry for my bad english.
same problem here. problem exists since the end of december (ca. 27 dec) after i upgraded my system with pacman -Syu. dont know all the packages exactly which were updatet but evolution stopped working. i always get the evolution setup wizard and then evolution hangs as described after pressing the forward button with 99% CPU. no matter if i have my /home/.../.evolution directory or not. tried a lot of things -> deleting my evolution directory, deleting gconf evolution entries reinstalling the whole system and so on. nothing solved the problem. think it's a package thing. hoping for a solution ;)

please add a new user, log into X as that user and see if it still hangs. I cannot reproduce this here.

i have added a user "test" logged into X as that user and started evolution-2.0. it still hangs after completing the setup wizard as described in my last post.

Hrm, this does happen to me also using a new user account. Have you looked for an open bug on Ximian's bugzilla about this?

seems to be a gtk 2.6 problem. you could temporarily downgrade to 2.4 to create your account, then reupgrade - it works fine after the first setup.

thx a lot dale. you are absolutely right. it was a gtk 2.6 problem. after downgrading to gtk 2.4.x and libglade 2.4.x i have completet the evolution setup wizard and evolution loaded. after that i upgraded gtk and libglade back to the current versions and all is working now. i'm a happy arch user again, after evolution stopped working end of december. sorry for my bad english again and thank you, nice support :)

back again... it did not last long. after i rebootet my system the setup wizard starts up again, instead of loading evolution. after completing the wizard it hangs again. hmmm...

There are bug entries at ximians bugzilla:

thx for this info... downgraded to gtk 2.4 at the moment and everything's running. don't know if many arch users have simular problems with gtk 2.6 or 2.6.1 and evolution and other apps. if so maybe a good idea to downgrade to gtk 2.4 till the problems are solved by the gtk people...

it seems like jgc patched this in gtk2. Does it work for you now ?

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=9179

i never had any problems again since then.
