DetailsAfter updating pacman-mirrors, the following mirror was ranked first on my system:
Server = ftp://artfiles.org/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch Server = http://artfiles.org/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch However, these mirrors seem to be inactive, i.e. all attempts to download a package from that site failed. |

try to update the database with -Syy and then try installing package again

FYI, the problem appears to be caused by a bug in bauerbill, the front-end to pacman that I use. When I use pacman directly, everything works fine, but bauerbill can't download anything anymore. I guess it doesn't understand the newly introduced $arch keyword. I'll report the bug to Xyne. Sorry for the noise.
