Description: ffmpeg is looking for an old version of libx264.so

I am trying to convert a mkv container to mpeg with ffmpeg but the libx264.so file it is looking for is outdated.
I have a more recent version on my system. and I am not running arch-testing

Additional info:
* package version(s)
local/ffmpeg 30526-1
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:

[s~]$ ffmpeg -i $fff.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec copy $fff.mpeg

ffmpeg: error while loading shared libraries: libx264.so.84: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

[~]$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libx264.so.96 /usr/lib/libx264.so.84
[~]$ ls -l /usr/lib/libx264.so.84
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Jun 21 11:01 /usr/lib/libx264.so.84 -> /usr/lib/libx264.so.96
[~]$ sudo ldconfig -v | grep x264
ldconfig: Cannot stat /usr/lib/libx264.so.84: No such file or directory
libx264.so.98 -> libx264.so.98
[s~]$ ls -l /usr/lib/libx264.so.84
ls: cannot access /usr/lib/libx264.so.84: No such file or directory
[~]$

I tried creating a simlink but ldconfig removes it.

shouldn't ffmpeg directly links on the .so file instead of .so.84 ?

I don't know which package you are using, but the ffmpeg version in extra is 23619-1 and the latest upstream revision is r23684.
