Additional info: same xorg.conf works great with ubuntu which has older xorg version.
* package version(s)
* config and/or log files etc.

we can't do anything since nvidia is closed source. you need to report this issue to their forum.

for now, you should downgrade to the previous version

I'm suffering of this problem since xorg 1.7.6 and nvidia 195.36.15(?). Tried drivers 195.36.15,24,36 and beta 23...(don't remember). It is xorg issue i guess. Now I temporary moved on ubuntu, it works like charm here.

This is an nvidia problem. All EDID probing happens through the driver, not something inside Xorg. NVidia replaces nearly the whole X server architecture anyways, so unless anything crashes, this is not related to bugs in X.Org at all.

ok, thanx. I'll try to post to their forum. But how is it possible that it works in ubuntu with the same xorg.conf?

Ubuntu has a different X server and probably other nvidia drivers or no nvidia driver at all. Nvidia uses different codepaths for each version of X, so things that work on xorg-server-1.7 could be broken when using the same driver with xorg-server-1.8.
