Details

Description:

The git-instaweb script expects 'apache2' under this name, but the 'apache' package in Arch uses the name 'httpd'. The command 'git instaweb --httpd apache2' complains about a missing Apache server.

Additional info:

apache 2.2.15-2
git 1.7.1-1

Steps to reproduce:

Run 'git instaweb --httpd apache2'.

(temporary) Fix:

Install the following symlinks:
/usr/sbin/apache2 -> /usr/sbin/httpd
/usr/lib/apache2 -> /usr/lib/httpd

(proposed) Fix:

Patch the git-instaweb script. This seems nontrivial for me, because I don't fully understand what's going on there. As far as I can see, they rely on the assumption that the 'name' of the httpd ('apache2' in this case) is equal to the executable name in $PATH.
This task depends upon

Symlinking is ugly and should be avoided, so +1 for patching the git script.

The other option is installing lighttpd, but it really is a bad solution when one has apache2 installed.

I took a look at this tonight, and git-instaweb is a nice little rabbit hole I fell into. I am going to end up submitting about 5 patches upstream to fix some of the issues I've found.
