DetailsDescription:
SoX depends on libpng for some reason. Why this is, I cannot quite understand, but the bottom line is that when run without libpng installed on the OS (e.g. headless server without X), it complains about a missing shared library. Secondarily, why isn't SoX compiled against lame by default? This is infuriating when trying to set up new servers that I have to custom compile "The Swiss Army knife of sound". I have consistently had trouble with SoX when upgrading as can be noted from my forum posts [1]. Please fix this, or promote me to be the maintainer for this package.
