Description:

Hi,

I'm unable to connect to the web with a CDMA modem (from a portuguese ISP named Zapp).

This originally begun when I updated my girlfriend's laptop to ubuntu 10.04 she started to have problems connecting to the internet, I've brought the modem and tried out in Arch only to find the modem also doesn't work here, although it works flawless under windows :(

In annex is the log I've captured from /var/log/messages.

The modem sometimes authenticates, while other times it just says it is busy and fails to connect (need to replug the modem or reinsert the "option" module).

I won't always have the modem with me, so any questions may have delayed answers from myself.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
- networkmanager 0.8-1
- ppp 2.4.5-1
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
Hardware needed, but should be:
1) Plug the modem
2) Use a nm frontend (I'm using KDE plasma plugin) to configure/connect
3) tail -f /var/log/messages
4) See the modem authenticate and fail :(
This task depends upon

i guess you didn't see the modemmanager package as optional dependency no?

pacman -Si networkmanager

Optional Deps : modemmanager: for modem management service

Please take a closer look at the attachment I left as part of the bug description. You'll see modemmanager in action ;)

you could try networkmanager and modemmanager from testing.

Just a note here since I'm a frequent user of broadband mobile devices:

The KDE front-end is hugely limited, in that support for devices do not go far, and not properly or well enough to function. If at this point of time you still see that nm+mm from testing with nmplasmoid do not work, then I would suggest network-manager-applet as the front-end instead. Otherwise, we can close this and you can report it upstream along with the details of your modem.

I'll try using the nm-applet although I really think this either a networkmanager issue or a kernel driver one.

Unfortunately as I've mentioned before, I'm unable to obtain this modem quickly, I'm hoping for this weekend to have the opportunity to try the packages from testing + nm-applet.

For now, the severity can be lowered, as this, at least for me and as there are no more reporters, no longer poses as a big impact.
