Whenever I try to install an extension in OpenOffice Writer (3.2.1), using Tools>Extension Manager, I get the message:

Add Extension(s):
The operation on file:/.... was started with an invalid parameter.

I actually want to install the English dictionary, to get spell-checking, but I've tested with other extensions too, and got the same error message.

I have checked that my ArchLinux installation is all up to date.

I hope this is the right place to post this bug. I consulted someone more knowledgeable than me, and he suggested posting here first rather than on the OpenOffice site.

A similar bug with OpenOffice in Ubuntu was reported a while back and seems unresolved.

Just tested this. Works with vanilla and go-oo for me here. Please check file permission in your users OOo config dir.Maybe you get more useful output when starting soffice from command line. if not uno from command line to deploy the extension(see wiki).

Thanks.

sudo /usr/lib/openoffice/program/unopkg add --shared /usr/lib/openoffice/share/extension/install/dict-en.oxt

does work.

I suppose there is some permissions problem with installing the extension from inside OpenOffice, but I'm too ignorant to work out what it is (sorry).
