For what exactely is that font-width-fix.patch in rxvt-unicode-256color?

I was using the regular rxvt-unicode with xft:Dejavu Sans Mono:size=9 and it looked good. After I changed to the 256color version the font was looking really weird (width too small imho). After I compiled the 256color version without that patch, the font is looking good again.

Don't know exactly, but patch itsef says:
>> + * bukind: don't use g.width as a width of a character!
>> + * instead use g.xOff, see e.g.: http://keithp.com/~keithp/render/Xft.tutorial

Can font be adjusted by changing size for example?
