Proposal:

rt2870usb-fw would be a update for new drivers.
Ralink drivers (e.g. from staging) needs now firmware - except rt2780.bin - also rt3070.bin and rt3071.bin (kernel 2.6.34).

---kernel 2.6.34---
usb 2-1: firmware: requesting rt3070.bin
usb 2-1: firmware file rt3070.bin request failed (-2)
ERROR! NICLoadFirmware failed, Status[=0x00000001]
rt28xx Initialized fail!
---kernel 2.6.34---

A lot of people now going to need rt2870usb-fw with those firmwares.

If it's useful for you, i am attached a modified rt2870usb-fw's PKGBUILD with the addition of this firmware.

Thank you!

  • Field changed: Task Type (Bug Report → Feature Request)
  • Field changed: Summary ([rt2870usb-fw] new upstream tarball → [rt2870usb-fw] should include more firmwares)
re-opened because I am not sure if we need those firmwares or not.

Giovanni is inactive, so I am sending a mail to arch-dev-public ML.

As far as I know, the support for RT30XX and RT35XX (both PCI and USB) in the rt2x00 drivers is non-functional and should not have been compiled in.

CONFIG_RT2800PCI_RT30XX
CONFIG_RT2800PCI_RT35XX
CONFIG_RT2800USB_RT30XX
CONFIG_RT2800USB_RT35XX

In any case, the firmware is outdated. New archives should be downloaded from http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2 .

What I know we need is the firmware for the rt2x00pci driver (rt2860.bin), also available from the above URL. See my comment on  FS#19048 .

Using the rt2870sta (staging) drivers and kernel 2.6.34, internet only works for me once the updated firmware (V22, see OP) has been installed.

IMO the firmware package needs to be updated and an announcement posted on the forum.

After a discussion yesterday, it look like we might move to package linux-firmware from the git repository. Please try http://dev.archlinux.org/~thomas/linux-firmware-git-20100519-1-any.pkg.tar.xz.
