Spell checking with Abiword built against aspell does only work with English texts. I do have aspell-de installed, but Abiword says it can't find the corresponding dictionaries.

The best way, and also the way recommended by the developers, is to build Abiword agains enchant - a spell checking wrapper library. AFAIK, Enchant is proposed to be a freedesktop.org standard.

I did build abiword like this myself and it works like a charm. A PKGBUILD for enchant will be attached to this task.

On a system with enchant installed, Abiword automatically builds with enchant support.
